PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (PETRONAS SIC) was built in February 1998 and officially inaugurated to the public on 9 March 1999 by the former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. It was completed in a record 14 months and with the recognition of its multifaceted facilities, it was given the honour to incorporate the F1 logo in its name from 1999 to 2017.

Dubbed as the crown jewel of Malaysian motorsports, PETRONAS SIC is best known for its endless motorsports events and activities, such as the F1 Grand Prix (F1), MotoGP™, Super GT, World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), Asia Le Mans Series (ALMS), Superbike World Championship (WSBK), Endurance World Championship (EWC), Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), Asia Talent Cup (ATC), Sepang 12 Hours (S12H), Malaysia Championship Series (MCS), Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race (S1K), Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK), as well as corporate, lifestyle, and exhibition events, making it the venue of choice.

The circuit itself is a tourist attraction with its unique shape, layout, and history. PETRONAS SIC lives and breathes motoring, from adrenaline-driven events to preserving motorsports history, as well as developing talent with its very own SIC Racing Team, established in 2014.

Due to its unique location, PETRONAS SIC is strategically located 14km away from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and is a 45-minute drive (60km) from most major cities, especially from Kuala Lumpur's city centre. The circuit is accessible via the modern North-South Expressway, railway links, and a network of highways.

Designed by the world-renowned architect Hermann Tilke, the track features 15 turns and 8 straights, with high-speed action exceeding 300km/h. The track allows ample opportunities for overtaking, ensuring a race full of suspense and thrill.

PETRONAS SIC aims to inspire generations as a cutting-edge motorsports and edutainment hub in the region, and a catalyst to spark a new beginning for Malaysia's motorsports industry and beyond. The track can accommodate more than 170,000 spectators at a time. The Main Grandstands and 18 air-conditioned Corporate Suites have a capacity of 32,000, while Grandstands K and F can each accommodate up to 18,500 spectators, facing turns 1 and 7, respectively. The Hill Stand offers an open-air and panoramic view from turns 9 to 14.
