SEPANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT GEARS UP FOR ANOTHER BUSY YEAR WITH THREE WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

SEPANG, 7th March 2019 – Motorsports fans will be in for a treat this year as the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has lined up a stellar calendar of events during the final third of the year.

 

Beginning from November 1-3, SIC will welcome back the world’s amazing riders in the penultimate round of the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2019 .

 

Then as recently announced, SIC will welcome a new international event from December 12-15, the famed 5.543km track will see a unique double-header world-class events with the World Touring Car Championship (WTCR) and motorcycling Endurance World Championship (EWC) being hosted in one race weekend.

 

SIC Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Razlan Razali said he was excited to be welcoming fans to a series of world-class events at the circuit.

 

“This unique collaboration with Eurosport Events will make the race exclusive and one of a kind as we create history by hosting two world championships together in one weekend. Both races will take place until sunset, and the chequered flag will be waved under the new SIC Circuit Lights,’’ said Dato Razlan.

 

The FIM Endurance World Championship is the premier worldwide endurance motorcycle racing championship. The inaugural 8 Hours of Sepang on December 14 will see the finest Asian teams wishing to qualify for the Suzuka 8 Hours grand finale on the track alongside the EWC’s permanent teams, who will be invited to Sepang and SIC will also place 5 wildcard riders to compete.

 

The 8 Hours of Sepang will be the second race on the 2019-2020 FIM EWC calendar, held in between Bol d’Or and 24 Heures Motos, as part of the reworked winter calendar initiated by event promoters Eurosport Events.

 

Then on the following day on December 15, the WTCR–FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO season grand finale will take place.

 

The WTCR event will see the third and final race run under floodlights from 7pm (local time), making it the maiden WTCR night race which is set to be a spectacular occasion during the deciding weekend of 2019.

 

The hosting of both EWC and WTCR events at the same weekend will be a landmark for SIC as it will be the first time that the circuit has hosted races for motorcycles and cars on the same weekend and the world finals of all international championships will be at SIC this year

 

Tickets for all events have been out on sale, with the MotoGP Early Bird promotion which started from November 5 last year and ending March 8, 2019.

 

For the MotoGP Early Bird Promotion, ticket prices are as follows:

  • Hafizh Syahrin Tribune – RM306.25 (special merchandise included)
  • Main Grandstand – RM237.00
  • VR46 Tribune – RM195.00
  • PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team Tribune – RM172.50 (special merchandise included)
  • F Grandstand – RM97.50
  • C2 Hillstand– RM55.00;
 

The prices are valid during the promotion period or for the first 8,000 tickets, whichever earlier. Fans can also enjoy a unique VIP experience with the most exclusive services with grants access to the paddock as below:-

  • MotoGP Village Pass - Euro 1,015.00 (access to the paddock with air-conditioning and dining for 2 days)
  • MotoGP Village Pass - Euro 929.00 (access to the paddock with air-conditioning and dining for Sunday)
  • MotoGP Village Pass Child - Euro 507.00 (access to the paddock with air-conditioning and dining for 2 days)
 

“The Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix remains the marquee event at the circuit and we saw the popularity of the event increasing with a sell-out event every year,” said Dato’ Razlan.

 

“Last year, a total of 169,827 fans came to watch the Grand Prix, breaking the 2017 attendance record (166,484) and 2016 (161,533)

 

“This year will see the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team making history in the MotoGP class with riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo. The PETRONAS Sprinta Team will feature Khairul Idham Pawi in the Moto2 class, while John McPhee and Ayumu Sasaki will feature with the team in Moto3. Also in the fray is Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, racing for Red Bull KTM Tech 3 team. I expect the number to rise and we hope fans will take advantage of the Early Bird promotion that is ending soon to get their tickets at a much lower price before it sells out.”

 

Meanwhile, fans will get to watch all the actions in the WTCR/EWC events for the price of one.

 

Ticket prices for WTCR and EWC (8 Hours of Sepang) are as follows:

  • Main Grandstand – RM275
  • VIP Club Pass (Paddock with air-conditioned hospitality and dining for 2 days) – RM3,710 (including SST)
  • Paddock Pass (Main Grandstand and Paddock Access for 2 days) – RM670 nett.
