2016 World Supersport Championship
Round 7, Donington Park, UK, Sunday 29th May

Orelac Racing VerdNatura riders Fahmi Khairuddin and Nacho Calero finished 20th and 24th respectively in the seventh round of this year’s World Supersport Championship at Donington Park today. With Fahmi and Nacho starting from the eighth row of the grid, it was always going to be hard for them to get into the points unless everything worked in their favour. As it turned out, they were unable to make much progress in the 20-lap race.

Fahmi Khairuddin – 20th
“My start was not so good and then I braked too early for turn 1 and got passed by a few riders. I rode very consistently and was happy with my laps times but I couldn’t make much progress. I am disappointed because 20th place is just not good enough. I need to be fighting for points, not fighting for a top twenty position.
I have struggled at this track because it is my first time here and because there are many ups and downs and you need to know exactly where you are going before you can push hard with confidence. The next track is Misano. It is a track I know and a track I like, so I feel I can do well there and get back in the points.”

Nacho Calero – 24th
“ My start was OK, but I wasn’t confident enough in the first corner and was passed by a few riders. It is almost impossible to pass anybody in the first section of the track, so I found myself 25th at the end of lap 1. There was a group of riders who held me up and the rear tyre was sliding around a bit, so I couldn’t push any harder.”

Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“This was not a good weekend for us. We chased our own tails for two days and never really found the right set-up or combination for this track, Donington is a very hard track and Fahmi found it difficult because you really have to know exactly where you are going before you can attack it. We should’ve come up with better solutions, sooner, but racing is not always easy. The grid positions didn’t help either. We’re going to put this weekend behind us and concentrate our efforts on the next race in Misano. Both riders know the track, so we are expecting a good weekend and better results.”
