Monday, 21 April 2025 – PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is proud to announce the rebranding of Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) to Malaysia Touring Car Championship (MTCC). This significant change marks a new chapter in the history of Malaysia’s premier national motorsports series.
The Championship, which began as the Malaysia Super Series (MSS) in 2002 and became MCS in 2015, has now evolved into MTCC in 2025. The new name aligns with global motorsport standards and reflects the growth and ambition to raise the profile of Malaysian racing both locally and regionally.
Promoted and organised by SIC, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia (KBS) and sanctioned by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), the new name, MTCC, focuses on touring car racing. This includes race-prepared, production-based cars, offering more clarity and connecting with motorsport fans around the world.
Azhan Shafriman Hanif, Chief Executive Officer of SIC said, “The rebranding to MTCC is a gamechanger for the Championship. We are not just changing the name, we are positioning the Championship for bigger and better things, with a goal of having up to 80 cars on the grid each round. With a record of 67 entries in 2024, the new format will make racing even more intense and exciting for both drivers and fans. I cannot wait to see how the 2025 season unfolds and I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to Sepang!”
One of the main updates is the introduction of clearer vehicle classes. The previously mixed vehicle categories in MCS have now been replaced with more focused classes, including the newly renamed Malaysia Touring 2 (MT2), and Touring Production 2 (TP2), which better reflect the touring car format.
Another key change is the technical regulations. The 2025 season will feature only raceprepared, production-based cars, ensuring fair competition. The TP2 category will now allow new performance cars, such as the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, giving fresh talent more opportunities to join the competition.
Additionally, the 2025 season will feature a single-driver format for the TP category, focusing on individual skills and performance. In the MT2 category, Grade A drivers will face pit stop time penalties, making the racing more balanced and exciting for all competitors.
The 2025 season will begin from 2 – 4 May, followed by Round 2 from 25 – 27 July, Round 3 from 8 – 10 August, and the season finale from 5 – 7 September 2025.
