THE 2025 SEASON OF THE NEWLY-REBRANDED MALAYSIA TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP (MTCC) KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND

Friday, 2 May 2025 – PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is set to officially launch Round 1 of the 2025 season of the newly-rebranded Malaysia Touring Car Championship (MTCC), this weekend, from 2 to 4 May 2025. This highly-anticipated season opener will feature competitive field of participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Macau.

Formerly known as Malaysia Championship Series (MCS), the MTCC rebrand introduces a refreshed identity that aligns the series with international touring car standards. This transformation reflects SIC’s long-term ambition to elevate the national motorsports landscape by delivering a more competitive, structured, and globally relevant platform for racers and fans alike.

This weekend will showcase a total of 82 cars on track throughout the weekend with F4 Southeast Asia Championship returning to the grid, alongside the Asia Classic Car Challenge/Caterham. In addition, Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia is making its debut as the Companion Series, further enhancing the race weekend experience for fans and motorsports enthusiasts.

Azhan Shafriman Hanif, Chief Executive Officer of SIC said, “MTCC is more than a name change, it represents a purposeful evolution of the Championship. We have redefined the Championship with clearer classes, updated technical regulations, and a stronger focus on turbocharged cars to keep up with global motorsport trends. With 53 entries already confirmed for Round 1, we are off to a strong start.

“We are also grateful to Hankook, our Official Tyre Partner for the 2025 season, for their continued support in driving this exciting new chapter forward. I am particularly excited to see Jonathan Xie of Skuber Race Team return to the grid this season. As the overall winner last year, his return adds another layer of excitement to an already thrilling grid. I look forward to seeing how the season unfolds and to welcoming fans, drivers and teams back to Sepang for what promises to be another thrilling year of racing,” he added.

Fans can expect edge-of-the-seat action as drivers compete for the coveted Championship titles across five exciting classes; Malaysia Touring 1 (MT1), Touring Production 1 and 2 (TP1 & TP2), and the newly-named Malaysia Touring 2 (MT2V & MT2G). In a move to enhance clarity and competitiveness, the previously mixed vehicle categories have been restructured.

Another key change is that 2025 season will feature only race-prepared and production-based cars. The TP2 category will now allow new performance cars, such as the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, giving fresh talent more opportunities to join the competition.

Fans can experience the thrill of the race weekend with a Paddock Pass priced at RM100 for three days. For a more elevated experience, the newly-introduced MTCC Hospitality Pass is available at RM318 for two days, offering a comfortable, premium setting to enjoy the race.

Following the season opener this weekend, the 2025 MTCC calendar continues with Round 2 from 25 to 27 July, followed by Round 3 from 8 to 10 August, and concludes with the season finale from 5 to 7 September 2025.
