The 53-year old president, who is also a keen motorsports enthusiast, was here on an official visit of the circuit earlier today, accompanied by several delegates from his home nation, as well as several representatives from the Malaysian Parliament.
The democratic Republic of Tatarstan is situated in the center of the Russian Federation on the East-European Plain. One of the most economically developed subjects of the Russian Federation, it stretches over 67,836.2 sq. km where over half of its 3,773,800 population are Muslims.
Minnikhanov’s arrival at 10.30am was greeted by the member of the SIC Board of Director, Datuk Mohd Aini Taib.
Minnikhanov is a regular competitor in the FIA European Championship for Rallycross Drivers. He is also a multiple champion of the truck category in the UAE Desert Challenge, a rally competition held in the United Arab Emirates, and had finished third in the FIA European Championship for Autocross Drivers in 2005.
Upon his arrival, he was taken for a tour of the National Automobile Museum at the circuit’s Welcome Centre and then proceeded to the Paddock building where he was taken on a tour of the Circuit’s facilities such as the Perdana Suite, Time Control Room, the Media Centre, the Race Control Centre and also the podium.
During his visit, Minnikhanov was also taken on a lap around the 5.543km track and had also graciously autographed the SIC Guest Book.
