SEPANG 1000KM ENDURANCE RACE 2017

Saturday, 11 November 2017 - Sixteen years after winning the glamorous 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER), professional race instructor Admi Shahrul Ahmad Safian sensationally won his second race in Sepang – the equally prestigious but shorter distance Sepang 1000km (S1K) endurance race tonight.

Partnering James Veerapen, the dynamic duo of Proton R3 Motorsports topped 36 other entries to complete the 181-lap contest in eight hours 48 minutes 29.268 seconds after enduring tense and dramatic moments towards the tail end of a thrilling contest.

In a three-way battle in the last hour at the Sepang International Circuit with Tedco Racing and Maxx Mayhem Team Nanoplus, Admi, who won the MMER crown with Tommy Lee and Jeffrey Wong in a TVR machine in 2001, was behind the wheels to take the chequered flag in his Proton Suprima S and winning the premier Malaysia Touring Car (MTC) class.

Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel – the name synonymous to R3 Racing and last year's winner – took second place in a Honda Jazz partnering Keifli Othman and Patrick Tam for Maxx Mayhem Team Nanoplus. They finished 46.335 seconds behind the winners.

Featuring a Malaysia-Australian-Indonesian partnership of Nick Mah, Chris O’Shannessy and Fitra Eri, Tedco Racing lost their opportunity for glory after their Indonesian driver was forced to do an unscheduled pitstop with seven laps to go after their Suzuki Swift machine encountered a technical glitch to surrender their leadership.

Flagged off at 12 noon, the race was telecast live via SIC Facebook, reaching a total of 750,128 viewers.
