The qualifying session for the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) today at the at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) went on with a gloomy overcast.
Poised to seize the MSS Superbike championship title this year Yasuhiro Kuhara was pleased that it didn’t rain and the cooler temperatures help in making the qualifying run done on the Northern part of the Circuit a bit more comfortable.
However that was the only break he will get as shown by his closest rival Rahim Muhammad Sidek went to take pole position for tomorrow’s main race by clocking 1:06.555 as to 1:06.634 by Kuhara.
The Japanese is currently with 141 points or ahead by 35-points from Rahim, Kuhara last held the championship title back in 2006 and have been fighting hard to get it back.
Ahmad Zamani Bahrudin and Hiroshi Yamashita takes third and fourth spot respectively on the starting grid ahead of thirteen other riders.
In the Superstock qualifying session Mohamad Suhadi clocked 1:07.786 will be starting up front along with Luca Cassoni and Championship leader Ibrisham Daud in third spot.
Ibrisham Daud is leading the Championship with 81 points followed closely by Joshua Sri with 66 points. Norwegian Hannu Holden is tied in third place with Martin Poh with 58 points.
For the Supersport championship (600cc) Championship leader Azlan Shah is in pole position. A double victory at round and a poor result by second place rider, Norwegian Nils Uchida Zakariassen (second in qualifying) will mean an early victory for Azlan in the Championship
Bikez Mag 150 Cup set a record with the most participants with 36 riders listed to start the race tomorrow.
This interesting class is a mixture of bikes such as the Yamaha 135LC, RXZ, TZM, Kawasaki KIPS, Ninja 250, Honda NSR and a Aprilia RS125 making it an entertaining race to watch.
Heading the bunch is Muhammad Syafiq Omar, followed by Mohd Tarmizi and Ahmad Azhar Hamid each clocking 1:17.187, 1:19.380 and 1:19.420 respectively.
Catch the action today at SIC, entrance is free but if you want to get really close to the action paddock passes are going at RM50 and parking charges as low as RM5 for cars and RM2 for motorcycles.
