SAN MARINO, SEPTEMBER 5, 2010: Malaysian MotoGP 125cc rider Mohd. Zulfahmi Khairuddin’s battle in at the San Marino Grand Prix yesterday was cut short after only two rounds when his motorbike faltered.
After putting out a promising qualifying round at the Misano circuit, where he managed to pull himself up from the 28th position to the 20th, Zulfahmi, who was aiming to earn another point, was extremely frustrated and dismayed with the mechanical problem.
“I am so disappointed. I started well, but during the second round, my engine just died and my back tire completely stopped so I had to pull myself out of the race,” said the AirAsia-Sepang International Circuit rider yesterday.
Zulfahmi, 18 who had also faced mechanical glitches with his bike at the Indianapolis Circuit, which resulted in him having to pull himself out of the race last week said he was aiming for a better race after the team had enhanced and improved the bike’s engine performance.
"My bike had looked so perfect in the beginning after the team had finished with it. But I guess this happen during a race,” said the rider who looked glum after the race.
Zulfahmi have been gaining international recognizance after being able to collect three points; at Jerez GP, German GP and at the Czech Republic’s GP even though this year had marked his debut in the international motorcycle racing arena.
It was not a good outing as a whole for the Air Asia-SIC team, as Zulfahmi’s teammate, Sturla Fagerhaug had also failed to finish the race/. Fagerhaug, who was unable to race at Indianapolis after being struck down by viral fever, was still looking rather unwell during the race and had pulled out after seven rounds.
Don’t forget to catch Zulfahmi in action at the Sepang international Circuit on 10.10.10.
