Teams in entering the Sepang 1000km (S1K) race went for their last practice run today after spending the morning half of the day with scrutineering.
Team AZA Garage featuring a full line up of four drivers Hairollizam, Azlie M.H, Taleeb M.S and Hidayat. all hailing from Kluang, Johor is enthusiastic about the race.
“Although we are not as fast as some of the other teams doing about 2minutes and 50seconds per lap but we are looking at this race as a learning curve as this is the first time we are entering such a race,” explained Hairollizam.

“We have done a bit of racing but not at this scale, with no sponsors we pooled money from friends to get the chance to race in S1K, even our pit crew is doing it on a voluntary basis. I’m grateful we have such a support.
Entering the S1K race in Class 2 with a 1600cc Proton Satria, he added that the team is aiming to be in the top ten and any podium position would just be a bonus.
Another small team in the S1K race is team HPC Kegani in Class 2 in a Toyota Levin. Driver Kenny Lee is back with a vengeance after being disqualified for technical reasons in the 2007 Millennium Endurance Race (MME) after finishing first in class.
Disappointed but not broken Kenny is back and this time with two years worth of preparation. According to team manager Alvin Joseph,” Kenny and our two other drivers Tung Wei and Chris O’Shannessy are clocking an average time of 2:45 per lap.”
“So far in testing we managed 40 laps per set of the Archilles 123 tyres, we don’t know how the other teams are doing but we hope to achieve at lease first in class again if not overall.”
By the end of the practice session the fastest time of the day is set by team Type R Racing clocking 2:39.357 in class 1 Honda Integra and in class 2 the fastest time was set by Lai wee Seng in a Honda Civic at 2:39.905

Entrance to watch the race is free for race fans, the action starts as early as 9.45am on Saturday morning with the Supercars and Supersaloon race followed by Aston Martin race and finally rolling off with the S1K race at noon.
