For just RM5, those coming to watch the Sepang 1000-kilometer Endurance Race (S1K) at Sepang Circuit this Saturday (June 5) can indulge themselves in plenty of fun activities including go-karting and pocket bike experience for the children while watching Malaysia’s best drivers battling against each other and top international drivers from as far as Australia, Japan and Europe.
“It will be an exciting experience for all especially the kids. Parents should take this opportunity to bring their children to come to Sepang this Saturday and enjoy the event. There will be plenty of off track activities for them and plenty of prizes to be won as well,” said Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali, the Chief Executive of Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
With the purchase of a RM5 ticket for entry, spectators would be entitled to participate in all the activities though some would be exclusively only for the children such as the go-kart and pocket bike experience, which would be sponsored by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia.
Similarly for all the children’s Programme, which included fun and games, quizzes, colouring competitions and singing contests would be only for the children. This segment which included food for participants and prizes would be sponsored by A&W Malaysia.
Fans coming to the event would also have the opportunity to meet Malaysia’s current top cartoon characters – Upin & Ipin, whom would be making a special appearance at the S1K race this year.
Introduced last year following the revamp of the 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER), the S1K pits race cars below 1900cc and is participated by almost all the top racing names in Malaysia such as Boy Wong, Farriz Fauzy, Lai Wee Sing, Keifli Othman, Eddie Lew, Faidzil Alang Abdul Rahman, Perajun Krishnan and top lady drivers such as Phillipa Yoong and Puteri Ayu Jasmin Abdul Hamid.
Top international drivers competing this year included Grant Johnson, Allan Letcher and Garry Hills from Australia, Junichi Umemoto, Wataru Maeyama and Hiroki Nakamura of Japan; Noradzlianayati Abdul Radzak and Melline Jaini of Brunei; Roy Haryanto of Indonesia and a long list of racing drivers from Singapore.
A total of 59 entries had registered for the second edition of the S1K and they would be going through the qualifying session tomorrow (June 4) to determine their grid positions. The race would be on Saturday (June 5); flagging off at 12 noon and finishing 181 laps later at around 9pm.
“Parents should get their kids to catch the action on track as well while enjoying all the off-track activities. These are all the top drivers in Malaysia and the kids could perhaps get inspired to be one himself,” added Razlan.
