SEPANG, April 20, 2010: The Sepang International Circuit has embarked on a One-Make Tyre ruling which will be enforced beginning from May 28 this year.
With the new ruling in place, competitors in the upcoming Malaysian Super Series, Sepang 1000K (S1K) and Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER) 2010 will have to use tires from the manufacturers as stated below:
1. MSS (Touring Car Category) – Federal Tyre
2. MSS (Sports Touring & GT Category) – Pirelli Tyre
3. MSS (Bike – Supersports & Superbike) – Pirelli Tyre
4. S1K(Touring Car Category) – Federal Tyre
5. MMER (Sports Touring & GT Category) - Pirelli Tyre
The ruling will commence with the first round of the Malaysian Super Series, scheduled to take place from May 28 - 30.
The move will ensure that the competitors run on a level playing field, especially in endurance races such as the S1K and MMER where tyres can make or break a race. SIC has also negotiated with the respective tyre manufacturers to give the best possible pricing as a cost saving feature for the competitors taking part in the races.
The selection process was conducted by a Technical Committee, which involves the CEO, COO and the operations team aside from the technical specifications In making their selection, the committee had also taken into account feedback provided by the racers themselves,
The tyre companies were invited to tender in their pricing and technical specifications. Their products also had to undergo an extensive series of tests to determine their durability as well as the wear and tear of their respective tyres before the committee made their final decision on the most suitable make of tyres for each category.
