This appointment is aligned with Lotus Racing’s effort to propel global driver development, especially amongst deserving Malaysians and Asians who are striving to breakthrough into the motorsport scene on an international level.
MOFAZ Racing is a Malaysian racing team and has proved its mettle as an emerging force in the European racing arena through the World Series by Renault Championship. After successfully campaigning Fairuz Fauzy in the 2009 season, which led to Fairuz conquering the runner-up spot in the whole Championship, MOFAZ Racing also triumphed its way to the 5th overall placing amongst 13 other teams in the Team Championship, despite only making its debut in the series within the same season.
The determination and focus that the team has presented to motorsports fan around the world, off and on the track, has attracted the attention of Lotus Racing, which shares the same motivation in its quest to emerge the best ‘new’ F1 team in 2010. Thus, an accord was struck between Lotus Racing and MOFAZ Racing to work hand-in-hand to develop F1 stars of tomorrow through the grinding paces of WSR
Formula 3.5, which demands a high level of competency amongst its drivers, as it is acclaimed by many as the penultimate step in single-seater racing before F1.
Lotus Racing’s Team Principal Dato’ Sri Tony Fernandes was quoted as saying, “We are proud to be in this vibrant affiliation and we look forward to MOFAZ Racing working diligently in churning out more Champion Drivers in years to come through their racing endeavours. We share their pride in their 2009 season’s driver, Fairuz Fauzy, who has proven to all that MALAYSIA BOLEH! Now that Fairuz will be
driving for Lotus Racing, we hope that Daniil Move and Nelson Panciatici, who will be run by MOFAZ
Racing for their WSR 2010 Championship quest will share Fairuz’s and MOFAZ Racing’s determination, courage, technological precision, competence and outstanding teamwork, which has proven to be the key to motorsport excellence. These qualities are the same as the ones we have instilled in Lotus Racing, and
we look much forward to emerging as THE BEST amongst the new Formula 1 teams in 2010, and for MOFAZ Racing to also emerge as the top team in World Series by Renault 2010!”
“Our affiliation and alliance with Lotus Racing is truly apt, after our successful run in 2009 that saw us claiming 5th position overall in the WSR Team Championship, despite being the ‘new kid on the block”, said Haji Fauzy, the Team Principal of MOFAZ Racing. “Both organisations were born out of the determination to succeed globally through hard work and diligence, to overcome any obstacles that came
our way, and thus, the advent of this sturdy and motivated coalition between two globally-forward racing organisations will help strengthen MALAYSIA’s presence across the globe, and also provide the opportunities for both teams to leverage on technical and managerial development both will experience in their respective championships”.
This concerted effort will help Lotus Racing further strengthen its global driver development program, encompassing deserving drivers from Malaysia and ASEAN to be trained and developed to conquer the tracks of Europe and beyond.
The 2010 World Series by Renault Championship begins this weekend on the 17th and 18th of April in Motorland Aragon, Spain, where Junior Lotus Racing (fully-owned and operated by MOFAZ Racing) will be making its debut with an all new line-up consisting of Russian’ Daniil Move and Frenchman’ Nelson Panciatici driving the number 9 and 10 cars in the Formula 3.5 Series.

The World Series by Renault Formula 3.5 has marked itself as one of the primary routes to Formula 1, with recent graduates who have gone on to prove their worth in F1 such as Fernando Alonso, Robert Kubica and 2009’s Formula 1 runner-up Sebastian Vettel.
The new Formula Renault 3.5 machines incorporate the latest aerodynamic technology which appears on Formula 1 cars in recent years, and is
equipped with a 3.5 litre V6 engine peaking at 500 bhp utilising ‘flexfuel’ technology.
Renault has put into implementation the technological advancement that it has garnered over the years through its involvement in Formula 1 to allow competitors in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 to be prepared for the highest level of motorsports, whereby several similarities are put in place in the cars to
help drivers familiarise themselves with the rigors and challenges demanded out of a Formula 1 driver.
