Running under the Melaka colours, team PPM or Persatuan Permotoran Melaka is gunning for podium this year in the Sepang 1000km (S1K) race.
The team was launched recently at the stadium Hang Jebat, Malaka by Melaka Youth and Sports unity aid organisation committee chairman Y.B Datuk Kapt (B) Hj Ab. Karim bin Sulaiman
Drivers Azman Hussin, M Fathli and Azlan Rabu is confident to achieve podium this year with team work and experience that they have been accumulating from entering races in Sepang since 1999.
“In 2007 we blew the engine one hour before the MME race finishes, last year we did not enter it because of budget constrains but this year with the help of PPM and Melaka Tourism we managed to get the team and car prepared,” Said Fathli.
Prepared by R Auto, the car have been on test since it was rolled out in May.
“Although this race is not that much difference in terms of prepperation as to compared to preparing for MME but this is our first time using the controlled tyres which is the Archilles 123.
So far it’s been ok as we have matched the car’s set up to the tyre’s performance, the only thing to find out is our timing on the track as to compared to the other teams.”
He added that the tyres will really make the racing closer and they are not giving anything to chance this year.
“Apart from Azlan, the rest of the crew is from Melaka and part of PPM,” said Fathli.
“We wanted an experienced driver line-up instead of rookies so we had to import a driver from Johor, if not the whole team will be from Melaka,” explained Fahli jokingly.
According to Fahli the team had a lot help especially from Razali Bachik of PPM.
“Hopefully we’ll get to be in the top three finishers in this race and also help promote the state of Melaka along the way.”
The Sepang International Circuit is less than an hour drive from Melaka so come all to support your team, entrance is free for all motorsports fans.
To date 57 teams have registered for the S1K race with 32 teams in Class 1 and 25 in Class 2.
