David Wall Qualifies 7th in Malaysian Endurance Race

30 August 2008, By Sepang International Circuits

David Wall and his team mates, Barton Mawer and Damien Flack have qualified in 7th place in a field of almost 80 cars for this weekend's 2008 Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance, (MME) in Malaysia.

The 12-hour race at the Sepang Circuit, home of the Malaysia Formula 1 race, has attracted a field that includes some of Asia's top drivers.

Qualifying was held over three sessions, with one driver running in each session. The final qualifying time was then set as an aggregate of the three drivers fastest lap times.

The team will be competing in the open class at the MME in the Porsche 996-RSR that David campaigned in the 06/07 GT Championship and are aiming for a top 10 finish.

Regular Carrera Cup front-runner, David said 7th was about where they expected to qualify

"We are running a car that is older than many of the front runners, so we are pleased with our top ten qualifying position," said David after qualifying.

"Qualifying positions are less important in an endurance race than they are in a sprint race, so I think we are in a good position for the race. As with all endurance races, anything can happen during the 12 hours of this race."

David's co-driver Barton Mawer was pleased to have been able to spend some more time in the car before the race.

"Earlier this week we spent time in the car in both the day and also in the dark; it was good to be able to get some miles around the track before the race," said Barton.

The race begins later today, finishing in the early hours of Sunday morning Australian time.
