CALSONIC IMPUL WINS MALAYSIAN ROUND OF SUPERGT CHAMPIONSHIP

SEPANG, June 20, 2010: CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R drivers, Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli from Team Impul took the championship title in the Malaysian round of the SuperGT International Series in the GT500 category, recording the time of 1:50:54:084.

Though the team had initial difficulties with this season's new 3.4-liter engine in the GT-R, the team’s combined forces led them to the coveted No. 1 spot in the championship.

Tsugio and Quntarelli won the coveted EBBRO Pole Position trophy in the Super Lap Qualifying ceremony on Saturday, placing them at the first spot on the starting grid.

The Super Lap Qualifying Session is the second qualifying session where the top eight cars from the first qualifying session compete in an open, clear circuit condition to set a faster time that ultimately determine the top eight of the class.  

The Super Lap win was made ever more meaningful for seasoned GT championship driver Tsugio as it was his first pole position since he began driving in the championship.

The second spot in the GT500 category went to Motul Autech GT-R (Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer) with the time of 1: 51:07:417 and the third spot went to Weider HSV-010 (Takashi Kogure and Loic Duval) with a time of 1:51:10:757.

In the GT300 category, M7 MUTIARA MOTORS AMEMIYASGC 7 took the trophy in the GT300 category, recording a time of 1:52:09:593.

The second spot in the GT300 category went to Arta Garaiya(Morio Nitta and Shinichi Takagi) with the time of 1:52:37:218 and the third spot went to Corolla Axio apr GT (Takuto Iguchi and Yuji Kunimoto) with a time of 1:53:00:939.

The trophies were presented to the teams by Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ng Yen Yen.

The Sepang race is the fourth round in the 2010 SuperGT season

This year marks the 10th edition of SuperGT International Series since it was first held in at the Sepang International Circuit back in 1999. The teams will be heading back to Japan to race at the Sugo circuit next.
