Fugazi Enters Round 4 In Full Force

Trailing by three points in the Supercar Championship race, Malaysian Wira Dani Daim will have strong support in his chase of the Malaysian Super Series as Fugazi Racing Team enters the competition at the A1GP Malaysia in full force this weekend.

“We will be entering three cars for this round – the usual Radical SR8 for Wira, our MME Ford Falcon V8 and a Porsche GT3 for this round. This is a vital round and we aim to go all out,” says team manager Hafiz Marzuki.

After three rounds, defending champion Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri Lanka leads the championship with a total haul of 105 points against Wira’s 102. Stewart Seatter of Scotland is in third place with 48 points; and virtually out of running for the championship.

Used by the team at the recent 12-hour Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race, the Australian V8 machine would be driven by the team’s regular drivers Faizal Zalman while the GT3 machine would be piloted by Shahril Azuan.

“We aim to have all three cars again at the final round next week and build them further to compete in a full season next year,” said Hafiz, adding that the Ford Falcon was forced out of the race with a broken water radiator after the tenth hour.

Although the championship crown is practically out of reach, Seatter is competing Round 4 with a vengeance; discarding his usual Porsche  KSR to use a new Mazda RX7 machine.

“We will definitely see a different Stewart Seatter for this round and the final round next weekend,” said team manager Kumaran Tan, who runs Danville Motorsports and responsible on the Scottish racing affairs.

Apart from the Supercar Championship, the weekend would also see Round 4 of the Supersaloon and Supersixteen championships as well as the JPM Integra Cup Malaysia.

Unlike the previous rounds, the drivers competed using the half track of either around the North or South Track. Round 4 would test them for them for the first time around a full track and their challenge had been made even tougher as they would be joined by participants in the supersaloon and the supersixteen championships.

“There would be not less than 35 cars on the grid and all of us charging at full speed into Turn 1. Of course, it is very risky; but that’s what racing is all about – taking calculated risks to gain that small advantage,” said Ron Lim, the inaugural winner of the Supercar Championship in 2002.
