TO ALL PARTICIPANTS
PETRONAS MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX 2009

Tobacco Advertising

Please be informed that Malaysia is a party to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), an international legislative tool developed to address the problems of tobacco consumption and negotiated under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Apart from health education activities, enforcement has been one of the important components of tobacco control. Enforcement activities are based on provisions contained in the Tobacco Product Control Regulations 2004 (CTPR 2004).

Rule 4 of CTPR 2004 strictly prohibits tobacco product advertisement and any person who contravenes the regulation commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding ten thousand ringgit (RM10,000.00) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two (2) years. For your information, until 2006, Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd (SIC) was no longer exempted under CTPR 2004.

As such, SIC strongly advice all parties to submit to the abovementioned regulation. SIC shall not be liable for any consequence or inconvenience resulting from your failure to adhere to the same.

Thank you.
